Joyce Uptown Foodshelf relies on neighbors like you to keep our program running. Each day volunteers assist Joyce in providing a warm, welcoming shopping experience. This is a fun and active volunteer opportunity. We would love to have you!

Volunteer Shifts

Volunteer Shift Descriptions

We have two main roles for volunteers in the foodshelf, Front Desk and Shopping assistants. These shifts are 3 hours or less, and include time to engage with shoppers, assist with restocking, and answer phones.

We also have roles supporting collection of food. Take a look at the details below and fill out the form below if you are interested in volunteering. All volunteers must be at least 18 years old.

Front Desk: Answering the phones and greeting clients: We will provide training and scripts for this role. This volunteer will be stationed at the desk and is responsible for answering the phone, greeting shopping and walk-in clients, and making appointments. Must have computer skills and the ability to juggle multiple tasks at once.

Check Out: Assist in our client-choice shopping area: Provide a welcoming environment for clients, and assist with restocking shelves, putting together Emergency Bags, and bagging up clients’ groceries. Some clients prefer assistance carrying groceries to car. Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs and be on feet for up to 2 hours.

Food Recovery - Grocery Store Run! This is an active and short shift that helps us collect food from local grocery stores. Join us in the van to head to Lunds & Byerlys, Whole Foods, Cub Foods, and others. Must be able to lift 40lb boxes.

Emergency Bag Packing: This volunteer will help pack bags with shelf-stable items. This is a fun and laid-back task, and volunteers are welcome to listen to music, podcasts, etc. while working.

We can also use help with clerical work, design, video and media, etc. If you are interested in using your skills to help, please reach out!

Monetary Donations

Monetary donations are the most helpful and can be made through the donate link below or sent to Joyce at 3041 Fremont Avenue South, Minneapolis 55408. For every $1.00 donated we can purchase $2.20 of food from our foodbanks.
