Joyce Uptown Foodshelf relies on neighbors like you to keep our program running. Each day volunteers assist Joyce in providing a warm, welcoming shopping experience. This is a fun and active volunteer opportunity. We would love to have you!
Volunteer Shifts
Volunteer Shift Descriptions
We have two main roles for volunteers in the foodshelf, listed below. All shifts are 3 hours or less, and include time to engage with shoppers, assist with restocking, and answering phones. Extensive COVID precautions are in effect. We also have roles supporting collection of food and offsite distribution. Take a look and fill out the form below if you are interested in volunteering.
Desk: Answering the phones and greeting clients: We will provide training and scripts for this role. This volunteer will be stationed at the desk and responsible for answering the phone, taking client information needed to make appointments and making appointments. This volunteer will also be greeting clients as they come for appointments. Must have computer skills and the ability to juggle multiple tasks at once.
Shopping: Assist with client distribution: Assist clients with finding the right products, restocking shelves, wiping down refrigerators and shopping carts after each use. As clients finish shopping, volunteer will assist in bagging and boxing of items and carrying to car if needed. Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs and be on feet for up to 2 hours.
Green School: Joyce Foodshelf does a weekly grocery distribution at Green Central School in South Minneapolis. This 2 hour shift is active and fun. Meet at the food shelf to load up the van, then head to the school to set up and distribute.
Food Recovery - Grocery Store Run! This is a active and short shift that helps us collect food from local grocery stores. Join us in the Van to head to Lunds/Byerlys, Whole Foods, Target, Linden Hills coop, and others. Must be able to lift 40lb boxes.
We can also use help with clerical work, design, video and media, etc. If you are interested in using your skills to help, please reach out!

Monetary Donations
Monetary donations are the most helpful and can be made through the donate link below or sent to Joyce at 3041 Fremont Avenue South, Minneapolis 55408. For every $1.00 donated we can purchase $2.20 of food from our foodbanks.
